The company started making performance apparel for elite athletes who were participating in the emerging sport of Triathlon. Christal Nylin, a resident of Kona, noticed that Ironman athletes needed functional apparel to race in, so they wouldn't have to use transition as "changing areas". This led to Zoot Sports' principle of finding product solutions for multisport athletes, which they still strive to achieve today.
